Oak Tower Tops Out At 155 Summit Street In Newark, New Jersey

The Newark skyline is continuing its steady evolution, and the latest milestone comes directly from the western edge of downtown. Construction has officially topped out on the NJIT Oak Tower, located at 155 Summit Street. Standing as a new landmark for the New Jersey Institute of Technology, this 17-story high-rise now reaches its peak height of 221 feet, officially making it the 37th tallest building in the city.

Designed by the architects at Niles Bolton Associates, the tower is a major step forward for campus expansion and urban density. Situated on a prime stretch of Summit Street right between Essex County Community College and Warren Street, the building bridges the gap between campus life and downtown Newark. The latest construction progress shows the reinforced concrete superstructure at its pinnacle, with the curtain wall facade quickly rising up the lower floors to enclose the building.

When it officially opens its doors, Oak Tower will inject significant new energy into the neighborhood. The development will yield 152 residential units housing a total of 454 beds, providing much-needed, modern student housing options. Beyond student living spaces, the building will feature a dedicated conference room and a premier penthouse suite designed for the university president.

With the structure fully framed, work is pivoting entirely to the exterior skin and interior fit-outs. Everything is currently tracking on schedule, and Oak Tower is expected to welcome its very first wave of students by 2027.
